The Harrowsmith Reader Poster Professionally Framed

$685.00

This is a promotional or commemorative poster for “The Harrowsmith Reader”, edited by James Lawrence, likely from the early 1980s, and rooted in the Harrowsmith magazine legacy — one of Canada’s most influential rural/environmental publications. A very cool find, especially for anyone into Canadian print history, sustainability, or back-to-the-land culture. Cottagecore lovers rejoice at this find!

This vintage poster has been framed in a sturdy metal frame with glass. It measures 56cm wide by 91cm tall.

A bit of history from our researchers:

The Harrowsmith Magazine was founded in 1976 in Camden East, Ontario, by James M. Lawrence.

The magazine quickly became a cult favorite among Canadians interested in sustainable living, organic farming, rural life, and DIY culture.

At its peak in the late 70s and 80s, Harrowsmith was Canada’s leading environmental and rural lifestyle publication — the Canadian equivalent of Mother Earth News.

The Harrowsmith Reader was a curated anthology of some of the best articles from the magazine — a kind of “best of” volume. It likely came out in the early 1980s, judging by the art and format.

The artwork on the poster is vintage collage-style with pastoral, agrarian themes — consistent with Harrowsmith's ethos.

This poster captures a snapshot of Canada’s environmental movement and back-to-the-land culture from that era.

It’s highly collectible among Canadian cultural historians, rural studies scholars, and folks into vintage eco-literature
